Service on the route

Refreshments

The refreshment stations will be different this year for health reasons. Participants are encouraged to bring their own refreshments to have with them during the race. Our staff will still assist runners if they wish so when filling water bottles or cups they are carrying with them.

The main drinking- and refreshment stations are by Hrafntinnusker, Alftavatn lake, Emstrur and by the finish line in Husadalur valley, Thorsmork where participants can have water and Gatorade to drink and bananas to eat. There will also be chocolates and Pepsi in Emstrur and by the finish line in Husadalur valley, Thorsmork. Organisers also provide drinks in a few other places on the track, on the sandy fields, by Kapa and Thronga river. Participants can also drink the water from the streams on the track.

At the drinking- and refreshment stations race officials will assist runners by filling up their water belts and bottles and will help get participants the refreshment they ask for. Participants are not allowed to help themselves. These measures have been made in cooperation with the Director of Health in Iceland.

No cups will be provided, all runners have to bring their own reusable cups or bottles.

* There will also be peanut butter pretzels at Emstrur
** Fruits will also be available in Husadalur (finish line).
*** Attention on the refreshment station at Sandar (32 km) there will only be 300ml available for each because of limited water supply there, and at Ljósá (49km) there will only be 450ml of drinks for each.

Portable toilets

There will be portable toilets in or by Landmannalaugar, Hrafntinnusker, Alftavatn lake, Emstrur and Husadalur, Thorsmork. It is forbidden by law to leave any human waste on the track and all participants are kindly asked to bring bags with them if needed when there are no portable toilets around. At the start in Landmannalaugar runners are asked to show consideration and let the first start group use the toilets first. This is done to ensure that everything goes smoothly and all runners are ready at the correct time.

Headcount and security service

Race officials are in charge of the headcount on the course that takes place by Alftavatn lake and the Emstrur hut and make sure to follow through with the cut-off time rules. They will also assist when assistance is needed when participants need to cross rivers

Midpoint bag

The extra luggage that participants can have waiting for them at the midpoint, by Blafjallakvisl will be transported there from Reykjavík the day before the race. After everyone has passed the midpoint, the bags will be taken straight to Reykjavík. Read more about the extra luggage here.

Race officials

The Reykjavik Sports Association is the organizer of the Laugavegur Ultra Marathon. Their staff members will be by the start line when you start your race in Landmannalaugar and by the finish line in Husadalur, Thorsmork. Race officials and volunteers all around the course are members of a running group in the town Selfoss called Friskir Floamenn and rescue team members from Arborg's rescue team in Selfoss. This is a group of 50 people, both men and women, and they have 5 mountain cars with them that will service the participants on the course. Other volunteers will be located in Husadalur, Thorsmork, by the finish line, most of them are runners themselves and few of them have taken part in the Laugavegur Ultra Marathon. There will be a doctor and a few nurses by the finish line as well.

Because of a given reason, we would like to point out to all participants that during the course there will be times when no race officials or volunteers will be at eyesight. We expect everyone participating to have read all the course direction information provided and that they will be properly equipped in case of an accident or other unforeseen incidents if they need to wait for some time for help to reach them.
